Demon Angel Ch1 Pg19

Summary: Jim and Spock finish their little history lesson for Taylor, which lets her understand things more. That doesn't mean things are all good with Mr. Baris and her... She asks why he thinks he has a right to use a Priority-One distress signal, when a previously unnoticed man informs her that Barris is an undersecretary. That evidently gives him the authority.

“The war ended and a treaty was made.”

~The two men now stood before a desk with an elderly man seated behind it, directing a compromise.~

“That treaty is known as the Organian Peace Treaty.”

“Sherman’s planet resides near the Klingon-Federation Border,” Mr. Spock continued for his Captain. “According to the treaty, the group that can better develop the planet are entitled to it and its resources.”

Taylor looked at him. “Okay, that actually makes perfect sense.” She then turned toward Mr. Baris. “However… I still fail to see what on Earth, or in the *galaxy* all things considered, would give you the reason or authority to use an emergency priority-one communications channel.”

A man in a grey suit with black hair answered as he began to approach the group: “Mr. Baris is the undersecretary for the Federation in charge of this quadrant’s agricultural affairs.”

Spock glanced at his two companions. “And *that* gives him the authority,” he told them in a low voice.

Taylor groaned quietly. “Uhng… whatever.”
